USA and Argentina claim team gold to close the Pan American Championships in Asuncion 2026
The XXVII Pan American Senior Squash Championships – Asunción 2026 concluded its competition with the team events, as the United States captured the Women’s Team title and Argentina claimed the Men’s Team gold medal.
After a championship that brought together more than 140 athletes from 20 countries, the final team matches delivered another chapter of high-level competition in Paraguay and completed the individual, doubles and team events.
USA completes a dominant Women’s Final
The United States 🇺🇸 entered the Women’s Team draw as the No. 1 seed and confirmed its position by winning the Pan American title.
In the semifinals, USA defeated Mexico 2-0, while Canada 🇨🇦 secured its place in the championship match after a 2-1 victory over Colombia.
The final featured some of the strongest players in the women’s competition.
Amanda Sobhy 🇺🇸, who had already captured the individual gold medal in Asunción, opened the series against Hollie Naughton 🇨🇦 and delivered a straight-games victory, 11-9, 11-7, 11-4.
Then, Marina Stefanoni 🇺🇸 faced Nicole Bunyan 🇨🇦 and secured another 3-0 victory, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6, giving the United States an unassailable 2-0 lead.
With the series already decided, the third scheduled match between Caroline Fouts 🇺🇸 and Zeina Kareem Zein El-Din 🇨🇦 was not played.

Argentina takes Men’s Team Gold
The Men’s Team competition produced a major result as Argentina 🇦🇷, seeded 5/6, emerged as Pan American champion.
Mexico reached the final after defeating the United States 2-1 in the semifinals, while Argentina earned its place in the title match with a 2-1 victory over No. 2 seed Colombia.
In the final, Leandro Romiglio 🇦🇷 gave Argentina the perfect start against the experienced Alfredo Ávila 🇲🇽.
Romiglio won the opening match in straight games, 11-8, 11-5, 11-7, putting Argentina 1-0 ahead in the series.
The second match featured Mexico’s Leonel Cárdenas 🇲🇽 against Jeremías Azaña 🇦🇷. Azaña took the opening game 11-1 before Cárdenas was forced to retire due to injury, giving Argentina the second match and securing the 2-0 team victory and Pan American gold.
With the championship already decided, the scheduled third match between César Salazar 🇲🇽 and Segundo Portabales 🇦🇷 was not played.

The team finals brought an exciting conclusion to a historic week for Pan American squash in Paraguay.
From the individual titles won by Amanda Sobhy 🇺🇸 and Diego Elías 🇵🇪, to the doubles competition and the final battles for team gold, Asunción 2026 showcased the strength and diversity of squash across the Americas.
The significance of the championship also extends beyond the medals. Asunción 2026 represents an important step on the road to the Lima 2027 Pan American Games and, ultimately, squash’s historic Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028.
