The Federacion Panamericana de Squash (FPS) stands in solidarity with the Ukraine

PRESS RELEASE – Thursday March 3rd, 2022

The Federacion Panamericana de Squash (FPS) stands in solidarity with the people of the Ukraine and fully support Panam Sports, the IOC, ACODEPA and the WSF. War in any form is unacceptable and incompatible with the values of sport. The FPS calls for world peace and to the end to the invasion in Ukraine.

On March 2nd, 2022 The Pan American Sports Organization annouced that Panam Sports, as representative of the Olympic Movement of the Americas, condemns the war that is taking place in Ukraine, joining and supporting the decision of the International Olympic Committee to prohibit the participation of representatives of Russia and Belarus in international sports competitions and advises our athletes and officials not to take part in sports events organized by these two countries.

The invasion of Ukraine is undoubtedly an attack on the Olympic Truce and represents once again a violation of the Olympic Charter by the Russian government.

For this reason, Panam Sports has decided not to accept the participation of any representative from Russia and Belarus in sports competitions to be held on our continent, and in turn invites all the Olympic Committee members of the organization and the Sports Confederations Pan American, to support this determination of the IOC and to condemn the war started by Russia, as well as to show our solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their struggle for their sovereignty and independence.

Panam Sports will always be against any war conflict in the world, faithfully believing that the dialogue and understanding of nations is the best way to achieve peace.

Earlier on February 26, 2022 the WSF also condemned in the strongest possible terms the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine. As the global governing body for squash, the WSF is committed to promoting peace through our sport and ensuring the safety of all participants in WSF Championships.

The WSF World Junior Championships 2022, scheduled to be played 9-20 August in St. Petersburg, Russia has been cancelled and will be relocated-details to follow.
