The squash competition at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo came to an exciting conclusion with the team events, where Barbados made history in the women’s competition and Colombia captured the men’s title after two memorable finals. Consult all the results here
The final day once again showcased the depth, competitiveness and growing strength of squash across the region, closing an unforgettable week at the glass courts installed inside Ágora Mall.
Barbados makes history with Women’s Team gold
Barbados completed a remarkable tournament by defeating Colombia 2–1 in the Women’s Team final and securing its first-ever gold medal in teams event at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
The final began under difficult circumstances for Barbados. Amanda Haywood was unable to play due to injury, giving Colombia the first match by default. PanAm Squash wishes Amanda a speedy and complete recovery.
With Barbados trailing 1–0 in the series, Margot Prow stepped onto court against Colombia’s Lucía Bautista Sarmiento knowing there was no room for error.
The situation became even more challenging when Prow fell two games behind, but the individual champion produced an extraordinary comeback. She recovered from 0–2 to win 3–2 (7–11, 6–11, 11–6, 12–10, 11–6) and keep Barbados alive.
That left everything in the hands of Meagan Best, who delivered when her country needed her most. Best defeated Laura Tovar 3–0 (11–5, 11–3, 11–3) to complete the comeback and secure a historic gold medal for Barbados.

For Barbados, the victory capped an exceptional Games, with Prow adding the team title after also making history by winning the country’s first women’s individual squash gold.
Colombia takes the Men’s Team title
The Men’s Team final provided another highly anticipated battle as Colombia defeated Mexico 2–1 to claim gold.
Mexico struck first when Leonel Cárdenas once again showed his outstanding level, defeating the experienced Miguel Ángel Rodríguez 3–0 (11–8, 11–6, 11–6).
Colombia, however, responded emphatically.
Juan Camilo Vargas faced Alfredo Ávila and took a tight opening game before taking control of the match, winning 3–0 (11–9, 11–3, 11–7).
With the series tied, Matías Knudsen had the responsibility of deciding the championship against one of the region’s most experienced players, César Salazar.
Knudsen confirmed the impressive growth he has shown as a professional, producing a commanding performance to defeat Salazar 3–0 (13–11, 11–3, 11–2) and secure the championship for Colombia.

After an eight-year absence from the Central American and Caribbean Games, squash returned with historic performances, new champions and medals distributed among several nations across the individual, doubles and team competitions.
From Barbados’ breakthrough achievements to Colombia’s strong finish in the team competition, Santo Domingo 2026 demonstrated the increasing competitive depth of squash throughout the Pan American region.
