ASUNCION 2025 Landmark Achievement for Paraguayan Sport

The II Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay were an overwhelming success, drawing over 4,100 athletes from 41 countries to compete in 41 disciplines as a celebration of youth sports excellence solidifying Asunción’s reputation as the “Walt Disney World of Sport.”
Held at the state-of-the-art National Squash Centre within the Secretaría Nacional de Deportes (SND) Complex, the event highlighted the very best in athletic players from across the Americas.

In an unforgettable moment of the Games, Paraguayan squash star  Fiorella Gatti made history by becoming the first Paraguayan squash player to medal at a Pan American Games capturing gold in the women’s individual. The crowd in the packed arena erupted in applause as Fiorella triumphed, marking a historic achievement for both her and the nation. Among the supporters were Paraguayan President Santiago Peña and Camilo Pérez, President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, who proudly witnessed this milestone in Paraguayan sports.

One of Fiorella’s coaches, Esteban Casarino, Vice President of PANAM SQUASH and who also served as a Junior Pan Am Games Services Director, shared his pride in the athlete’s achievement: “Fiorella’s victory is not just a personal triumph; it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Paraguayan sports community. Her success at this prestigious event
will inspire generations to come.”

Behind the scenes, the event ran with impeccable precision, thanks to the leadership of International Technical Director, Reinaldo Rivas from Canada, and Championship Referee, Ramiro Maldonado from Argentina. Their collaboration ensured that every detail was expertly handled, creating a world-class experience for athletes and fans alike.

The Junior Pan Am Games not only provided a platform for future sporting stars but also showcased Paraguay’s commitment to fostering athletic talent and global collaboration in sport.
